Student Leader blogs coming soon...

Louise BowdenHey everyone! I'm LOUISE BOWDEN and I’m the female School Captain at Centenary Heights this year. I’ve been at Centenary since year 8 and am extremely proud to be a voice of the students and a representative of the school. Over the last four years I have come to truly appreciate the many opportunities we are offered, and have spent many extra hours at school as a result of seizing those opportunities and making the most of them. School Captaincy was just one of those opportunities and I intend to make the most of it for myself and the rest of the school’s population.

I am determined to make a difference for the better, whether that is by further integrating our many different cultures, expanding our strings program, encouraging and helping my fellow students with any challenges or problems they may face, creating and enforcing a school hat, or all of the above, only time will tell. But, with the help and co-operation of our leadership team, my fellow year 12s, the staff and the rest of the school community I will make a lasting change. I am really looking forward to the inevitable challenges and opportunities coming up this year. I wish you all the very best and look forward to working with you.

Jack MathewsonHi Guys! I'm JACK MATHEWSON .  I am the male captain of Centenary Heights this year.  Yes, I guess you could say that I am the second Jack at Centenary Heights in as many years! I've been at Centenary Heights since the start of year eight and have enjoyed every opportunity that has come my way.  Hopefully this year will be no exception! I am honoured to have been given the opportunity of school captain and I plan to give this position my all for everyone.  This year should be about grasping opportunities not just for me, but for everybody!  It is my wish to see things happen at Centenary, not just talked about, whether that be through more interaction with students of different grades and cultures or more participation in sporting carnivals from all year levels.  I also wish to see students taking more pride in what they do and who they are (more so than they do already).  Though I have the School Captain badge I am not the only person who can or will lead Centenary Heights.  All students here are and have the ability to be leaders in their own right.  I also hope that I can be approachable, selfless, honest and a good representative of Centenary through the course of this year.  I thank everybody for this incredible opportunity that you have given me this year!

Good luck everybody and have a great year!

Dani KamstHi! I'm DANI KAMST and I’m the Vice-Captain for this year. I came to Centenary Heights half way through Grade 9 in 2006. Before then I lived in many places around North Queensland.

I love drama, legal studies and music, and being a high school teacher or lawyer are some career ideas I have for the future.

This year I hope to positively impact the school community by encouraging seniors to participate in school activities, and assist junior students in their high school journey. I also want to encourage an acceptance of differences in our school with the help of the leadership team.

2009 is sure to be a super year!

Marc MalletHello all. My name is MARC MALLET and I'm the school vice captain for 2009.
Before being elected I had a goal of trying to get more interaction between students from all year levels and am still passionate about that. Ideas as to how to do this are currently circulating between me and some of my fellow leaders. We hope that some of these ideas will really take off around the school.

As well as my aims to maintain and improve the high quality of our school, in the role of vice captain I know I can improve on myself in different areas. In having the position I can grow in maturity, become a more confident public speaker and organise my time more efficiently to maintain balance. So on the whole I believe I'm in for a cracker of a year and with the help of my fellow leaders, maintain or set challenges so that all associated with Centenary do too.

Fariha AlamHi, I am FARIHA ALAM and in 2009, I have been honoured with the position of the Student Council President. Year 12, to not only those like me who love talking to people and being involved in new things, but to most of my peers resembles one large sack of opportunities. Inside this sack are chances of a lifetime to do something worthwhile for our school, to present a shining example to those who succeed us and to leave such a mark that would speak of what we achieved, not what we said we would achieve.

This is what my Year 12 and my badge truly means to me. As the Student Council President, I wish to work with our whole school community alongside my council crew to forge and advocate great endeavours for the school. All in all, on graduation day, I aspire to stand with a proud group of Year 12s and together be remembered as leaders who made the most of their final year of school.

Jessica ZylstraHi everyone!  I'm JESSICA ZYLSTRA , and I am the Interact President for 2009.  I started at Centenary in 2007, when I was in Year 10.  Before that I lived in Vanuatu and was home-schooled for ten years.  It was a fairly big shock for me to go from a shcool of 5 to a school of over 1200!!  I enjoy reading, scrapbooking and cooking, and my favourite subjects are German and Home Economics.

This year in Interact we aim to run all of our normal projects, such as Jeans for Genes Day, Valentines roses, and of course, our annual Lifeline Appeal, but we also hope to get going with some newer initiatives introduced just in the last few years, and possibly introduce some of our own.

I am really looking forward to this year and hope it will be my best school year ever!!

Derek Shi ChengHello everyone, my name is DEREK SHI CHENG , I’m cross Cultural Captain this year, and I really enjoy studying at this school. I have been here just one year, I still remember when I first came here. It was the end of January 2008. At that time, I was very shy and very nervous, but I wanted to talk to people and participate in activities, so I made lot of friends. Also, I tried my best to work hard, so last year was fantastic! For myself this year, I will still participate in school activities, just like the basketball team and musical. Also make sure in every subject I can get good achievement. For Cross Cultural Captain this year, I should do something to enhance this school’s community. The students support me and the teachers trust me, so I’m sure I will not disappoint them. In fact, I have got a lot of planning this year, my goal is for everyone to accept and respect every culture from every country, so every day can become harmony day. Centenary Heights is a wonderful school, I’m very proud of to be a member of this school
